Here are a few ways to improve the climate at your child’s school-
1. Learn as much as you can about your child’s school, policies, the politics, and the general mood.
2. Get involved we have a great PTO. Create a spirit of cooperation. Teachers, administrators, volunteers all want the best for the students.
3. Talk with your child. Listen to his or her thoughts and feelings about the school. Work on ways to help improve the school.
On another note……
With the beginning of school behind us, we need to start looking at clear and concise boundaries for our youth. Students just spent their summer outside the school setting with sometimes very different boundaries. Help your students get settled in to the school year by talking about what is expected at school and at home.
Helpful Hints to setting boundaries.
· Make them positive; Say what you want along with what you don’t want.
· Be concise. Have each boundary be five words or less.
· Adjust boundaries as your student becomes older.
· Set and follow boundaries for yourself. Be a role model, and don’t be afraid to admit when you fail.
